The past few years the R/C industry has seen a big increase in the popularity of electric powered flight. Although electric flight isn't necessarily new, the available technology has changed drastically over just the past couple of years. The weight of the batteries and the power of the available motor systems had long made electric planes a bit too heavy to fly as well as the larger, gas and glow powered planes. The introduction of lightweight lithium-polymer (Lipo) batteries and powerful brushless motors has made it possible for small electric planes to fly as well and in some cases better than their larger cousins.
